Andreas Cornelius sold to Atalanta B.C.

FC Copenhagen have sold Andreas Cornelius to the Italian Serie A side Atalanta BC from July 2017.

Cornelius rejoined FCK in January 2014 from Cardiff in the Premier League, and this season has scored 18 goals in 43 games.

"We are satisfied with yet another big sale to one of the major European leagues," says CEO Anders Hørsholt.

"Andreas has been a great asset for the club and deserves to get a new chance at the highest level.

"This sale is an example of our strategy where our players attract attention from the biggest European leagues based on their performances at FCK."

Lions manager Ståle Solbakken added: "Corner has always put in 100 per cent for the team and the club. He has fought his way back from a serious injury and he has been a role model in the squad with his dedication to work hard every day, no matter if we are training or playing in the Champions League.

"I’m sure he will continue to do so for the rest of the season, and we are all delighted to see him get this new opportunity."

Cornelius progressed through FCK's School of Excellence before heading to Cardiff for a six-month spell in the summer of 2013.

He has won two Superliga titles and two DBU Cups.

"The timing is good for a transfer this summer," Cornelius said.

"Together, we have found a good match in Atalanta, and they have a good plan for me, which was the deciding factor for me.

"I’m still very happy to be at FC Copenhagen and I’m very motivated to finish my job here during the rest of the season. I will do what I can to help the club win both the Alka Superliga title and the DBU Cup again."
