F.C. Copenhagen sign Maher Carrizo on loan
Argentine attacking player Maher Carrizo has joined F.C. Copenhagen on a loan deal for the rest of the season.
Carrizo, 20, arrives in Copenhagen from AFC Ajax, and the talented left-footed winger is looking forward to meeting the fans in Parken as soon as his residence and work permit are in place.
“I am really happy that this opportunity has arisen, and I am very eager to come and give everything I have for Copenhagen. I come with lots of energy, speed and a desire to compete. I love creating chances and scoring goals, and I will do everything to help the team succeed,” says Carizzo.
"F.C. Copenhagen are a great club with proud traditions and strong ambitions. They compete in the European competition every year, and I am really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere in Parken.
"I have heard so many good things about the club and the fans, so I can hardly wait to be on the pitch with my new teammates.”
The Argentina U20 international turned 20 in February and arrived at Ajax at the same time after a strong start to his career with Argentinean club Vélez Sarsfield. Now he is chasing further playing time at F.C. Copenhagen.
Speakman: Important priority
For F.C. Copenhagen's Director of Football, Kristjaan Speakman, the arrival of Carrizo is a high-priority reinforcement of the squad.
"Maher fits perfectly the profile of a winger that we have been looking for, and we are very pleased that the agreement with Ajax has been struck,” says Speakman.
"We were in competition with several strong teams, and it was clear in our conversations how keen Maher himself was to make this move happen.
"He possesses some truly unique qualities, and it is well documented that he recently moved for a significant amount of money. We are getting an extremely motivated, high-quality player who is incredibly hard-working both with and without the ball – I am sure our fans will enjoy watching him in action.”
Bo Svensson: Carrizo brings dribbling and speed to Parken
Head coach Bo Svensson is delighted with the very specific qualities the young Argentine brings with him.
"Maher is an extremely exciting player,” says Svensson. “He has some individual strengths that are quite unique and that can contribute to making us more unpredictable in our attacking game.
"With his speed and dribbling, he can both set up his teammates for a goal, and he is also a goal threat himself. He is good 1v1, and that gives us some concrete offensive weapons that we are very excited to bring into play.”
The Argentine winger wears the number 7 shirt.
