Wiland still top keeper in Denmark

Wiland still top keeper in Denmark

FC Copenhagen goalkeeper Johan Wiland has been awarded the Tipsbladet Golden Cage for the second year in succession, therefore proving he is still the best goalkeeper in Denmark.

Wiland wins the accolade from votes cast by goalkeepers in the Superliga and Danish first division, and there seems to be little doubt as to who deserved the title. The Swedish keeper came top on 15 of the 25 ballots cast, and with 59 points beats AGF’s Steffen Rasmussen – who received 28 points – into second place. FC Nordsjælland’s Jesper Hansen comes third, with 26 points.

Wiland was on hand to speak to FCK.DK to comment on the award:

- I am very happy with the prize. It's always fun to earn accolades, especially when it is only goalies that vote for you, so it feels very special.

It is not the first time that a Copenhagen goalkeeper has been honoured with the Golden Cage. Previously, Jesper Christiansen earned the honour three years in a row from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, the first award in 1984 was given to former national team goalkeeper Ole Qvist, who played for KB.
