Torino knock five past FCK

FC Copenhagen ended 2014 with a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Torino in the UEFA Europa League that saw two players sent off in Telia Parken.

Daniel Amartey’s fortunate opener was ruled out by Josef Martinez’s half volley before Amauri buried a penalty that saw Mathias Zanka sent off in the process.

Martinez fired in from the angle 71 seconds into the second half before Matteo Darmian made it four with a back-post volley moments later.

And Gaston Silva’s strike on 52 minutes wrapped up the win for Torino and condemned FCK, who also had Mikael Antonsson sent off, to a bottom place finish in Group B.

The evening also marked left-back Pierre Bengtsson farewell after nearly four years of service.

After the match, Copenhagen players spoke to FCK.dk to review a bitterly disappointing result at the end of a long first half of the season.

Thomas Delaney

- It was a bizarre match. The entire game is determined by our second red card (Zanka’s), because until then we actually played well - even when we were 10 against 11. But the two men outnumbered us, so there was nothing we could do against a good Italian team.

Mathias Zanka

- We get two red cards, of course it's stupid - but there's nothing we can do about it. Decisions are made within a split second, and sometimes they are right.

Mikael Antonsson

- It was a crazy game, because we were really in total control - but the two red cards of course changes everything. Too bad, because that was not the way we wanted finish the year. But now it is time to rest a little so that we are ready to deliver in the Superliga next spring.
