Despite a draining midweek tie in the UEFA Europa League, head coach Ariel Jacobs named a strong XI for Copenhagen’s last match of the autumn half of the season.

FCK took the lead on 24 minutes when Nordsjælland goalkeeper Jesper Hansen fluffed a long throw from Claudemir, the ball dropping to Thomas Delaney who converted from a tight angle.

Thirteen minutes later it was 2-0 thanks to a blistering counter attack. Pierre Bengtsson won possession in his left corner of the field, played direct to Nicolai Jørgensen who turned before finding César Santin’s on the right. The Brazilian striker took his chance well, sidefooting through Hansen’s legs.

Nordsjælland had a chance to pull one back when Mikkel Beckmann rattled the crossbar from a 25-yard free-kick, but it was all but over when Santin scored his second in bizarre fashion. Hansen came to catch a simple high cross but again fluffed his effort, the ball looping to Santin who nodded calmly home for 3-0.

Nordsjælland had a lifeline when Kris Stadsgaard brought down Mark Gundelach in the box with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, Beckmann converting despite Kim Christensen getting a good hand to his spot kick.

Yet any hopes of an FCN revival were crushed in the dying minutes as Andreas Cornelius scored a trademark header after Lars Jacobsen and Martin Vingaard had exchanged passes on the right flank before floating in a tantalising cross.

The 4-1 result means FCK enter the winter break top of the Superliga on 47 points, with 14 wins from 20 games. Watch match highlights here, from FCKTV…
