La Manga fixtures announced

Even though the players are still on their winter break, work behind the scenes at FC Copenhagen is continuing as ever. Plans are now in place for preparation towards the restart of the Superliga, with friendly fixtures being drawn up for January and February.

As in recent years the club has decided to head south to La Manga, Spain, and train in the Copa del Sol tournament. Copenhagen are in a group with four other teams, but will play only three group matches.

There awaits a couple of strong opponents in Spain. FCK striker César Santin will come up against his former Swedish club, Kalmar FF. Meanwhile, Ukrainian UEFA Champions League participants Shaktar Donetsk and highly rated Russian outfit FC Anzhi will pose tough opposition for Roalnd Nilsson and his side. Captain Johan Wiland and co. will expect to be up against the likes of Roberto Carlos, Samuel Eto’o and Eduardo.

Match dates:

29 January 19.00 CET: Copenhagen - Kalmar FF

2 February 16.00 CET: Copenhagen - FC Anzhi

5 February 19.00 CET: Copenhagen - Shaktar Donetsk

The group also includes Norwegian sides Aalesund FK and Tromsø IL. The tournament's second group includes IFK Gothenburg, Rosenborg BK and Spartak Moscow. Group winners will meet each other in the finals.

The Copa del Sol is an annual winter tournament based in La Manga, Spain. With many leagues in Europe holding winter breaks, it is the ideal tournament for mid-season training. Copenhagen have used the tournament for several years as a means to building fitness before the Superliga kicks off again in March.

FCK’s first competitive match back in action is away to AaB, on 4 March.
