Copenhagen sign new right back

Danish left-back joins FCK

Michael Jakobsen has agreed to sign for FC Copenhagen, with the defender switching from Spanish side UD Almeria with immediate effect. Jakobsen has penned a four-year contract.

Jakobsen was one of the driving forces for AaB between 2005 and 2011, reaching almost 200 games and participating in the UEFA Champions League group stage for the north Jutland club, before he swapped the Superliga for Spain.

FCK sports director Carsten V. Jensen spoke to FCK.dk about Jakobsen’s arrival:

- With Michael Jakobsen, we have quality on the left side of defence where he can play both as a central defender and a full-back. Of course we know Michael from his time at Aalborg and most recently as a fixture in Almeria. We are delighted that we have reached an agreement and look forward to having Michael as part of the squad.

Jakobsen himself was on hand to comment on his arrival:

- It’s a huge opportunity for me to have this chance to come home to Scandinavia's best team. FC Copenhagen always contest the league title and are regular participants in European competition. That, combined with my ambition to return to the Danish first team, means I am quite sure that I’ve made the right decision.

Jakobsen trained with his new team-mates during FCK’s morning session on Saturday, and on Sunday he will be presented to the Copenhagen fans in PARKEN before kick off against AGF at 19:00 CET.
