Bolaños scores in FCK win

Christian Bolaños insists improved performances in an FCK shirt will earn him a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup after the Costa Rican scored his first goal in a year to help FC Copenhagen to a 2-0 Superliga win over SønderjyskE on Sunday afternoon.

The midfielder, capped 53 times for Costa Rica, doubled FCK’s lead with a neat one-on-one chip over goalkeeper Marin Skender after Daniel Braaten had opened the scoring with a well-placed header.

It was Bolaños’ first goal since Aalborg away last April and after coming through a rocky patch on the pitch his focus remains on the Superliga title defence as well as the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

- As a player you have hard times, you have good times, Bolaños told FCKTV. I’ve learned in the bad times and I’ve tried to learn fast. I’ve tried to keep going because I want to be in the World Cup.

- I try to do my best but football sometimes is like that. I’m very happy with the performance today, everyone played very well so that’s good. We have to keep going, game by game, there’s seven points [gap with FCM]. I hope we can do something, if teams can lose some games then we can fight.

- I think it’s a very lucky goal. It’s a good feeling when you score but it’s more important for me that we took the three points.

Bolaños had come close early in the game with a neat cut inside and low shot but Skender matched the midfielder’s effort, before Braaten opened the scoring 20 minutes in.

A series of one-touch passing between Claudemir, Andreas Cornelius and Bolaños spread the ball wide right to Christoffer Remmer, who planted his cross right on Braaten’s head.

Rurik Gislason forced another save out of Skender before the Icelander turned provider with a fortunate through-ball that deflected to the free Bolaños, who took his time to dink home the second goal with cool composure.

The second half saw Cornelius force a low save out of Skender while at the other end Johan Wiland flung his body at the ball to stop Mikael Uhre burying a one-on-one chance for SønderjyskE.

FCK now turn their attention to the second leg of the DBU Cup semi-final at FC Nordsjælland on Thursday evening.
