AaB take points on season opener

by Joe Short

Pierre Bengtsson had given the Lions hope early in the second half when his deflected free-kick levelled the scores, only for Søren Frederiksen to smash home the winner on 70 minutes.

Head coach Ariel Jacobs named a strong side to open his Superliga title defence. César Santin came close to scoring just two minutes in when he flicked on a Rurik Gislason cross narrowly wide, while at the other end Nicolaj Thomsen clipped the crossbar from range moments later.

AaB took the lead less than a minute into the second half when Johan Wiland let a weak shot slip under his body and out to Jeppe Curth, who pounced first to open the scoring. Aalborg’s lead would last less than three minutes, however, as Bengtsson earned a lucky deflection on his goalward free-kick to draw the scores level.

FCK pushed for a winner but it was the home side that took all three points as Frederiksen rifled in a shot from just inside the area to finish off a flowing move through the AaB midfield.

Despite the defeat FCK showed their threat on the attack and now have to wait a week before facing FC Midtjylland away from home.
