Carsten V. Jensen – FCK Sporting Director – described why Thomsen was such an attractive target for the club:
- Johnny's physical capacity is at a very high level. This applies to his strength, speed and endurance. Just ask those of our players who have met Johnny in opposition over recent years. Recently, Johnny's influence and performances on the pitch for SønderjyskE have brought him into games for the Danish national team. With him, we get a really solid alternative to the right side of defense, while he is also useful further up the park.
Thomsen himself was on hand to express his pleasure at signing for the Danish champions:
- I am first and foremost extremely proud and delighted to be part of Denmark's biggest club. I have had many good years at SønderjyskE, to which I owe a big thanks, but I could not say no to an opportunity to develop myself even more with FC Copenhagen. I am desperate and excited to get started after the summer break.
