We are in first place

F.C. Copenhagen has now reclaimed the position as League leaders. This happened on Matchday 11 when F.C. Copenhagen defeated Lyngby BK, and as Esbjerg at the same time outplayed the League leaders from FC Midtjylland. These two results meant that F.C. Copenhagen once again was in first place.

Brøndby IF – F.C. Copenhagen 0 – 1
Matchday 10 (of 33), 23 September 2007
A few seasons back, Brøndby IF versus F.C. Copenhagen would have been a clash between two top clubs in Denmark. But that was not the case this year, as Brøndby IF was in 11th place and FCK went into the game in 2nd place.

Early on in the game, F.C. Copenhagen seemed eager to show why they were the top club, and after only two minutes Marcus Allbäck came very close, but unfortunately his header flew right over the goal. A few minutes later, it was Czech International Libor Sionko who came close, but once again no goal. But then in the 13th minute Hjalte Nørregaard brought back memories to his famous goal in 2003. Libor Sionko raced all the way to the goal-line from where he sent the ball in front of goal, where it was met by Hjalte Nørregaard – and then the scores was 1-0 as he sent the ball past Stephan Andersen.

Brøndby didn’t roll over after the early goal, as they started to get more and more into the game. They probably should have been given a penalty midway though the first half, when Sionko had his hand on the ball inside the penalty area. But fortunately for FCK, the referees whistle remained silent, and that meant the score still was 1-0 at half time.

In the second half it was Brøndby who had most of the play – and also the side who produced most of the chances. Rasmussen, Lorentzen and Katongo all tried from the distance, but none of their shots came really close. In the final 5-10 minutes of the game, it was F.C. Copenhagen who had the ball the most of the time - and ended up cruising home to victory, to the joy of the many Copenhagen fans.

F.C. Copenhagen – Lyngby BK 2 - 0
Matchday 11 (of 33), 29 September 2007
After a few years absence from SAS Ligaen, Lyngby BK returned to PARKEN hoping to get some points that might bring them out of the relegation zone.

Lyngby started the game very well, and especially their two wings Aabech and Bechmann showed much promise – and in front of goal Holst tried all he could. F.C. Copenhagen also had their chances, and as we got closer to half time F.C. Copenhagen started to take control of the game. But after 45 minutes, the score was all even at 0-0.

From the start of the second half F.C. Copenhagen decided to speed the pace of the match. Hutchinson and Silberbauer replaced Grønkjær and Würtz, and the opening goal came only minutes after the substitution.

Niclas Jensen sent the ball into the penalty area, where Libor Sionko - thanks to his fine skills – made it 1-0. Only two minutes later, it was Morten Nordstrand who almost made it 2-0 but Rune Pedersen in the Lyngby goal showed that he is a very good goalkeeper, and kept the score at 1-0.

After 70 minutes F.C. Copenhagen got the first penalty of the season. Hutchinson was brought down, a clear foul, and Hjalte Nørregaard got the chance to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot. He didn’t fail!

Lyngby tried all they could to press forward, but they simply couldn’t. Instead F.C. Copenhagen had several chances to make it 3-0 and 4-0, but good goalkeeping and some lack of good luck meant the game ended with a 2-0 win to F.C. Copenhagen.

F.C. Copenhagen – FC Nordsjælland 1 – 1
Matchday 12 (of 33), 7 October 2007
Only three days after the exciting overtime win against RC Lens in the first round of the UEFA Cup, it was once again time for some SAS Liga action.

From the beginning of the game it was F.C. Copenhagen who was dominating the play, but when it came to producing chances – nothing really happened. But just before half time Libor Sionko came very close, but only a brilliant save from Kim Christensen prevented Sionko from scoring a very elegant scissors-kick goal.

After the break it seemed F.C. Copenhagen had found some extra speed, and they started to create more chances. And when Coach Ståle Solbakken sent Jesper Grønkjær and Marcus Allbäck on the pitch, everyone thought the opening goal would soon come – and so it did!

Silberbauer played a perfect pass in front of goal where Allbäck did was he expected to do, score! A very nice goal and everyone then thought F.C. Copenhagen was on their way to another clean sheet and three points. But unfortunately no one had told Dennis Cagara from FC Nordsjælland that. He hit the ball from approximately five meters outside the penalty area, and then the game was once again tired, this time at 1-1.

In the dying minutes if the game, F.C. Copenhagen tried all they could to get the winner, but it didn’t happen - and FC Nordsjælland could once again smile, as they got another point at PARKEN stadium.
