League update: April

League update: April

With only six games remaining of the 2008/09 league season, F.C. Copenhagen is still very much in contention for the title and do as a matter of fact lead the way for the others at the moment.

However, it is about as close as it gets between the top three with the Lions leading their archrivals Brøndby by a mere two points and OB Odense following suit a further two points behind. In the cup only the title game remains and the Copenhagen side is set to play AaB of Aalborg on May 21st. And so, as we enter the final phase in both of the domestic competitions, the prospects of gaining at least one title this season look ever more promising.

Match day 22, 4 April:

FC Nordsjælland - F.C. Copenhagen 0 - 3

- Our games against them have often been much more evenly balanced but today we were all over them. They packed themselves just in front of their goal to try and make it as difficult as possible for us but Santin’s early goal ruined their approach from the very beginning, said Jesper Grønkjær after the game.

Match day 23, 8 April:

SønderjyskE – F.C. Copenhagen 1-2

- They are always a tough team to beat and as always they were very well-organized defensively, but, to make matters worse, we just weren’t up to speed today. Our attacking play went far too slow with too many stations on the way and consequently they just cleared away on ball after another. All this, however, just made it so much more exhilarating to see us succeed in the end anyhow, as Hjalte Nørregaard summed it up afterwards.

Match day 24, 13 April:

F.C. Copenhagen – Vejle 4-1

- In the last few games we seem to have settled very well in defense, and of course offensively we are absolutely lethal at the moment with all four attackers looking very sharp. We really felt ready today - motivated as we were by Brøndby’s loss of yesterday - and now we have in fact managed to open up a minor gap between us and them, said Ulrik Laursen of the biggest win of the spring so far.

Match day 25, 19 April:

AGF – F.C. Copenhagen 1-0

- We played well and really ought to have set things straight before the break. But that’s football for you. The players did all they could but unfortunately we just couldn’t put the ball in the net today, regretted Coach Ståle Solbakken.

Match day 26, 22 April:

F.C. Copenhagen – FC Midtjylland 2-1

- Their equalizer was our wake-up call and at the end of the day we deserved this win. Today’s victory is testament to the team’s high morale. I think perhaps FC Midtjylland was satisfied with just keeping the score at level whereas we certainly weren’t and we really dominated all through the second half, said Mathias Zanka Jørgensen

Match day 27, 25 April:

AC Horsens – F.C. Copenhagen 0-2

- We were on top of things throughout the match and we keep up the pace even after the first goal. For the back four as well as goalie Jesper Christensen it was especially gratifying to lock-out the opposing team completely. We have some very important games ahead of us but I feel confident as we seem to be in near-perfect physical shape at the moment, stated Mikael Antonsson with just six games left of the 2008/9 league season.

Out of the six rounds remaining in the league F.C. Copenhagen will play host in four and, incidentally, the Cup Final will - as tradition dictates it - also be played at the national stadium, so all in all opportunities are plentiful for supporters of F.C. Copenhagen to cheer the team on throughout these crucial final moments of the season.
