Lars Jacobsen to leave FCK this summer

FC Copenhagen captain Lars Jacobsen will leave the club this summer once his contract expires.

Since last pre-season there has been talks between the club and Lars about extending his current deal but an agreement could not be found. Therefore, both parties have confirmed that, out of mutual interest, Lars will finish his time at FCK at the end of the current campaign.

FC Copenhagen head coach Ståle Solbakken spoke to FCK.dk about the decision:

- I have, in my two periods at the club, always been happy to work with Lars even though competition in his position has now increased. But I have also great respect for the choice Lars and we have taken and now we must focus on giving Lars, as captain of FC Copenhagen, the best possible farewell at the club.

Lions sporting director Carsten V. Jensen also spoke to FCK.dk regarding Lars’ departure:

- The process has been long and we could not agree on the terms of a contract. We think we owed it each other to try several times and as thoroughly as possible. Yet when the solution could not be found, we came to a mutual agreement and both parties now have the ability to adjust to it, for there are still three months left of cooperation. We do not say goodbye to Lars here and now but he has meant a lot to the club over the years and I’m sure over the next few months he will give everything to the team and the squad to make a final positive impression.

Lars Jacobsen himself expressed his gratitude to the club for reaching the agreement early:

- We could not agree on conditions to continue cooperation and that is how it is. When this is the case it is important to seek clarification so that the two parties enjoy a good ending together. This does not change the fact that I’ve had two good periods in FC Copenhagen with four championships and two cup titles. And I can vouch for the fact that my last spell at the club is not going to change my attitude to do my job and be part of the club and the team. I will finish this season properly.
