FC Copenhagen extend Mathias Zanka’s contract
Mathias Zanka has signed an extension to his FC Copenhagen contract until 2018.
The centre-back, who rejoined FCK after a two-year stint at PSV Eindhoven in 2014, explained why he has decided to pen the new deal.
“I’ve had a great time with FC Copenhagen and in Copenhagen since I returned from Holland two years ago,” Zanka told fck.dk.
“Again, we have built a very strong team and a team I am happy to be a part of.
“For me it was important that there is now calm regarding my future and it is also important for me that the club will be able to earn some money from me when I one day leave.
“They have helped me develop into an even better player, they have shown me great confidence, and FCK is my club.
“We’re satisfied with this new agreement. I very much look forward to continuing as part of this amazing squad and look forward to the challenges that are ahead of us.”
Zanka was yesterday selected for the Danish national side ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Poland and Montenegro next month.
The centre-back also scored in FCK’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Club Brugge in Telia Parken.
Manager Ståle Solbakken said: “We believe that Zanka is a defender of international level, and who has an important role on our team as one of the leaders.
“He has shown that both in the Alka Superliga and our matches in Europe. Not least in our Champions League match against FC Porto, where he was very strong.
“The extension here means all parties can work in peace and we are still working on a plan that he will be sold this summer, but no one wants it to be a stressful process, so it's good for everyone, that we now have peace about it.
“We are pleased that Zanka also can see the idea of ??extending the agreement and that he can contribute at least another year to FCK.
Zanka made his debut for FC Copenhagen back in September 2007 when he was just 17 years old, and has played a total of 242 matches for the club
