Cornelius to the double

Cornelius to the double

Andreas Cornelius scored twice to rescue a point for FC Copenhagen as the Lions came from two goals down to draw in Vestsjælland on Saturday.

The Denmark international headed home a scrambled corner to give Copenhagen a lifeline early in the second half before converting a neat penalty to draw level just after the hour mark.

Dennis Sørensen and Marc Dal Hende had given FCV a two-goal first-half lead and manager Ståle Solbakken made two substitutions at the break to boost Copenhagen’s comeback.

First, Mikael Antonsson, making his FCK return after signing a two-year contract in the week, flicked on a Pierre Bengtsson corner high into the box, where Cornelius rose above the chaos to nod home.

Then, on 61 minutes, Nicolai Jørgensen was brought down on the right edge of the penalty area, handing Cornelius the chance to level the scores with a left-footed effort past Thomas Mikkelsen.

FCV threatened to reclaim the lead but Lions goalkeeper Stephan Andersen held firm to block Thiago Borges, while Jørgensen saw a drilled effort bobble agonisingly wide at the other end.

The draw leaves Copenhagen sixth in the Superliga and unbeaten after three games.
