Streaming of F.C. Copenhagen vs Malmö FF hit by DDoS attack
F.C. Copenhagen can confirm the streaming of our UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Malmø FF on Tuesday 12 August was hit by a massive DDoS attack that bombarded the login system with traffic.
This was confirmed by F.C. Copenhagen's hosting provider the next day.
Despite a number of defensive measures, the attack was so extensive that the provider could not withstand the attack. In just one hour, the site received more than six months of traffic.
As a result, the login site crashed toward the start of the match, and it became impossible for many users to log in and follow the match live.
After 28 minutes of the match, F.C. Copenhagen opened another platform with the video signal instead, and made the match freely available to everyone, so that fans did not miss the important game.
The login was then restored during the break – despite the continued large-scale attack – but F.C. Copenhagen did not want to take any further risks and therefore allowed the match to remain freely accessible to everyone until the final whistle.
F.C. Copenhagen is very disappointed by the incident and regrets the inconvenience that the attack has caused to all fans on an otherwise magical European night in Parken. We will now evaluate together with our hosting provider and implement further measures to counteract this type of attack.
