Bolaños brace secures 3-0 win

Head coach Carsten V. Jensen was able to name the same side for the visit of AaB that beat AC Horsens 2-1 in the Superliga a week ago. Lars Jacobsen managed to recover from an injury scare that threatened to exclude the right-back for a fortnight.

Jacobsen was immediately in the action, on two minutes surging into AaB’s penalty area, crossing low but just out of Christian Bolaños’ reach. Bolaños had to wait just five more minutes to open the scoring however, winning back possession before dodging two defenders to strike through Nicolai Larsen with his left boot for 1-0.

FC Copenhagen’s great start was almost levelled moments later however, when AaB’s Thomas Augustinussen found space between Jacobsen and Ragnar Sigurdsson to head towards goal. Only Johan Wiland’s superb save prevented the striker from equalising.

N’Doye doubles FCK’s cushion

The block would prove to be even more valuable as Dame N’Doye made it 2-0 on 17 minutes. Bolaños took the ball down the right flank and cut back to Jacobsen, who directed a fierce effort at goal that Larsen could only parry to the poaching N’Doye. The Senegalese striker tapped the ball into an empty net for his 16th Superliga goal of the season.

FCK maintained their dominance on the ball for the rest of the half, working it well up the field on the left wing, with full-back Pierre Bengtsson always looking to overlap Bryan Oviedo. Shortly before the break a Larsen clearance spooned to N’Doye, but the Senegalese lacked his usual cool, smashing the ball over the crossbar.

The Lions stretched their lead to 3-0 soon after the break thanks to a flowing counter attack. Wiland’s defenders cleared away a corner, and while AaB’s men were tracking back, N’Doye picked up the loose ball and played it long to Bolaños. The Costa Rican charged down the left wing, bore down and goal and shot across the face of Larsen’s net to find the bottom corner.

Penalty chance squandered

Ten minutes later and Bolaños – again down the left flank – dribbled his way into the box but was fouled in the process; AaB’s Jakob Ahlmann conceding the penalty. Santin stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort struck the left-hand post and bounced clear for a dead ball.

On 75 minutes substitute Thomas Kristensen found Oviedo on the wing who, despite having Morten Nordstrand and Bolaños available, chose to go it alone in the box, the attack eventually breaking down when a fourth goal was on the cards. At the other end, Henrik Dalsgaard saw a decent long-range effort saved in the closing stages of a match that was decided by some South American brilliance.

With the victory Copenhagen maintain their six-point lead over FC Nordsjælland at the top of the Superliga. The two clubs face each other on Wednesday evening in a crucial game to decide where the title will go this season.
