Rodrigo Huescas

Update: Rodrigo Huescas

On Monday, Rodrigo Huescas was convicted of reckless driving in Københavns Byret (the Copenhagen City Court). Rodrigo has had his driving license revoked, his car confiscated, will be fined, and will have to serve 20 days in prison without parole.

Regarding the prison sentence, an agreement must now be reached with the Danish Probation Service, which will determine how the 20 days will be served. Therefore, Rodrigo is now awaiting that decision. This time frame is still unknown.

“I am sincerely sorry for what has happened. I know that I have done something potentially dangerous and very wrong. I apologise once again, and I am truly sorry for all the negative consequences that this has brought. I can see what it has done to my family and the uncertainty the situation has created. It hurts to know that I have exposed those I love to this," says Rodrigo.

“I have no say in the punishment and I accept it fully. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches and many others who have supported me. Now I am looking forwards and will do my part to help the team achieve our goals."

Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen says: “Rodrigo has been aware from the beginning that he has done something very stupid. He has violated Danish law and could have potentially put other people in danger. This is completely unacceptable. He has apologised many times to us, his family and his teammates. Now the Danish legal system has punished Rodrigo and we accept the sentence. Now we are waiting for Rodrigo to serve his 20 days in prison.

"We have handled the matter internally and will not impose any further punishment on Rodrigo beyond the one he has just received. Such a case naturally gives food for thought, and we have therefore chosen to add new procedures and tighten the requirements in our onboarding to ensure that all players are fully informed and at the same time have the best conditions to do well in Danish society."

F.C. Copenhagen and Rodrigo Huescas have no further comments on the matter.
