FCK appoint internationally renowned development director
F.C. Copenhagen have appointed Morten Grahn as the club’s new development director, with the Dane leaving his role as New York City FC academy director to return to the club.
Morten will be responsible for FCK Talent and will strengthen the women's department and lead important sports development projects across the club in close collaboration with sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen.
“I am really happy that we have succeeded in getting our top priority. Morten is a great capacity with international pedigree, who has enormous experience with talent development, and I have no doubt for a second that he will contribute very positively to F.C. Copenhagen's development,” says Sune about the new appointment.
Morten returns to F.C. Copenhagen after four years at New York City FC and will have the opportunity to build on his previous achievements for FCK Talent.
During his 10-year FCK career, he held the positions of A+ coach, U19 head coach with impressive victories in the UEFA Youth League, and head of player development.
Speaking about his upcoming move from the other side of the Atlantic, Morten said: "Since I went out into the world four years ago, I have felt the international recognition of the club and the talent department everywhere.
"Even in such a large organization as City Football Group - with Manchester City at the forefront - there is talk about F.C. Copenhagen's talent development. It makes a Copenhagener proud and is testament to the huge level of quality work that takes place there every day.
"It is therefore with great respect for this reputation that I am taking up the position of development director. I believe that my international experience can strengthen F.C. Copenhagen and contribute to the development of future international footballers, both on the women's and men's side."
Morten will take up his new role on 1 September, and according to Sune, he is worth the wait.
“Morten has some very special skills that will strengthen our organization. He sees and thinks extremely strategically, and he is known as one of the most talented people in Denmark in his field. He is an incredibly attractive hire, and it also says a lot about what we can offer that he has chosen to come to F.C. Copenhagen. I am very happy about that,” says Sune.
