Huescas sidelined with long-term injury
F.C. Copenhagen's Mexican right back, Rodrigo Huescas, faces surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period, and he will be out for the rest of the season at the very least.
Huescas was forced off just 13 minutes into Wednesday evening’s UEFA Champions League match in Baku due to injury.
On Thursday evening, Rodrigo underwent a scan back home in Copenhagen, which unfortunately confirmed that the injury is as serious as initially feared.
This means Rodrigo now faces surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period, and he will be out for the rest of the season at the very least.
Reflecting on the impact Rodrigo has had on the team, head coach Jacob Neestrup expressed his deep regret that the 22-year-old right-back can no longer do what he loves most.
“Since arriving last summer, Rodrigo has proven to be an exceptionally talented player who has become a key figure for F.C. Copenhagen and in the Superliga," says Neestrup.
“He has shown continuous development and was on the verge of a major breakthrough in Europe. He was also looking ahead to a home World Cup in Mexico next summer, had he continued his strong performances.
“We are truly saddened on Rodrigo’s behalf. It takes a strong mentality to come back from something like this, and we will support him every step of the way.
“It’s obvious that we, as a team, will miss his qualities on the pitch, but I can also promise that everyone in and around F.C. Copenhagen will do everything they can to help Rodrigo come back stronger, so we can once again enjoy his qualities on the pitch."
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen wishes Rodrigo a speedy recovery.
