F.C. Copenhagen sell Victor Froholdt to FC Porto
F.C. Copenhagen can confirm Victor Froholdt is joining Portuguese club FC Porto with immediate effect.
After seven years at F.C. Copenhagen, 62 first-team appearances and eight goals, the Lions today say goodbye to Froholdt, who is taking the next step in his career at FC Porto.
Sune: Victor really wanted a change of club
It is not easy for sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen to send Froholdt to Portugal.
“We have a great desire to maintain continuity in the squad, and Victor was an important component here, so I would have liked to have seen him stay with us longer," says Sune.
“However, during the negotiation process it was clear that Victor really wanted a change of club, and since we are also getting a historically high transfer fee, I have chosen to say yes to the offer.
“The timing is of course bad in relation to the fact that we have just started the Superliga and our European qualifiers. But transfer income is also an important element of our strategy and our desire to run a sustainable football business. When the amount has become so high, I am also obliged to act financially responsibly.
“I would like to thank the FCK Talent Department for once again educating a youngster to international level. They have a huge stake in this agreement. We wish Victor all the best in his future endeavours, and I look forward to following his development."
Froholdt: I owe the club so much
Froholdt, 19, joined FCK Talent as a 12-year-old from Vallensbæk IF. Since then, he has continuously raised his level through the youth ranks and made his debut for the Lions first team in the autumn of 2023. He earned his first full cap for Denmark this spring.
"It is sad to leave the place that has been my home for so many years, and it is not an easy decision," says Froholdt.
"But I am eager to take the next step into Europe, and I feel ready and well equipped. This is due in particular to the football upbringing I have had at F.C. Copenhagen, and I owe the club and FCK Talent so much.
"With the great support I have received from everyone at the club - the coaching team, teammates and staff - my development has been rapid, and I would like to send a big thank you to everyone I have had around me over the past seven years.
“Also a huge thank you to all the fans for making me feel so welcome - I have loved every second in Parken. Last season was magical, and I hope that F.C. Copenhagen will have another masterful season this time. I also hope that I can be allowed to wear the lion on my chest again one day.”
Neestrup: Victor's development has been phenomenal
Head coach Jacob Neestrup also says goodbye to Froholdt, whom he will miss.
“Victor's development - especially in the spring of 2025 - has been nothing short of phenomenal," says the boss. "Top performances have come regardless of whether it has been at Stamford Bridge, a rainy day in Jutland, the last day of the season in Parken, or at the cup final in Herning. We will all miss Victor's intensity, dynamism and presence.
“There is no doubt that Victor is ready for the next level at a very exciting club. What he offers is unique, and that is why he has also been an absolute key player for us in Copenhagen throughout 2025.
“Therefore, it is also extremely unfortunate that we are once again saying goodbye to a young, top player so quickly that we will not have the opportunity to see the player perform in more matches both nationally and in Europe - for the benefit of F.C. Copenhagen's sporting ambitions.”
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen wishes Victor all the best in the future.
