Zanka appointed new club captain

Zanka set for lengthy injury

News on Mathias Zanka’s left knee injury is worse than once hoped. On Tuesday the FC Copenhagen medical staff assessed the club captain’s knee, after the defender fell awkwardly during the FCK’s 1-0 win in Lyngby last weekend.

It was hoped he had only sustained a single ligament strain, but during surgery on Thursday it was evident that there are complications with other parts of the knee.

Club doctor Morten Boesen explained:

- Zanka underwent surgery on Thursday and as part of this, we had the opportunity to examine his cruciate ligament in detail. Unfortunately it turned out, as feared, that this too has been damaged, so combined with the ligament injury that we already knee of, Zanka has in front of him a break of anywhere between six to nine months.

Also available to comment was FC Copenhagen sporting director Carsten V. Jensen:

- This is bad news for both Zanka and FC Copenhagen. The task now is that we as a club assist Zanka 100% to provide him with everything he needs, so that he can come back his best.
