Historic European win for Copenhagen

Vingaard update

It has been just over a week since Martin Vingaard had ligament surgery to his right knee after being carried off injured against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. FCK.dk had a chat with Martin, who despite the prospect of a long stint on the sidelines maintained his usual upbeat mood:

by Joe Short

- The first few days after surgery I couldn’t notice much difference in the knee, but now I feel that there has been an improvement. On Tuesday I’m going to see Frank Odgaard at the PARKEN Private Hospital, where we will have a control check, and where we expect to do some exercises; so I can start to bend the leg a little and support it a bit, said Martin.

- Of course I will try to keep my spirits up, and I've received a lot of positive support from friends, family, colleagues and fans; and it helps very much to know that people care about me. This includes some of our fans that got me a T-shirt, flowers and a card. To further lighten my mood, the boys on the pitch played a fantastic second half against Brøndby on Sunday and pulled out a home win against our rivals.

The winger is expecting a long lay-off after his injury suffered eight days ago in London. Copenhagen club doctor Morten Boesen explained before the operation last week:

- Martin has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which will need an operation to heal and a minimum 5-6 month recovery period.

Vingaard, hours after the injury had occurred, had this to say:

- I knew that it could have been a serious injury and it was unfortunately confirmed today. Now I’ll have surgery and then a long wait for recovery. I am obviously extremely disappointed, but now I must concentrate on coming back stronger than ever.
