Historic European win for Copenhagen

Vingaard pens contract extension

FC Copenhagen can today announce that the club has extended the contract of midfielder Martin Vingaard for two years. His contract now runs until the summer of 2014.

FCK Director of Sport and head coach Carsten V. Jensen says:

- We are very pleased to keep Martin Vingaard at FC Copenhagen for the coming years. Martin is entering his prime as a player, and it is therefore gratifying that he has chosen to continue his career with FC Copenhagen.

- Martin is highly regarded in the squad and contributes with both experience and a high level of ambition. On the pitch, Martin has great offensive qualities, and it is gratifying to see him back on the team sheet after such a long break through injury.

Vingaard was also on hand to speak to FCK.dk:

- I am very pleased to have extended my contract with FC Copenhagen. I never doubted that I would extend it, as I love being at the club and feel that this is where I have the greatest opportunity to fulfil my ambition of winning titles and playing European football. We are once again building something big, and I am proud to be part of it.

Vingaard suffered a cruciate knee ligament tear last March against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. The midfielder went down after an innocuous stretch for the ball at Stamford Bridge, and it has taken almost a full year to recover after an operation and a lengthy recovery period. Vingaard spoke about the injury:

- Regarding my injury, I have a lot to thank the club and fans for. I've got all the help I could wish, and great support. This has meant a lot to me. Now I’m focussing my energy on what it's all about this spring, namely winning the championship and the DBU Cup.

Vingaard signed for FC Copenhagen from Esbjerg in January 2009. He has played 105 games for the Danish champions and scored 21 goals, including six in Europe. He scored the opening goal against Panathinaikos in last season’s Champions League to secure FCK’s passage to the knock out stages of the competition for the first time.
