Thomas Delaney sold to Werder Bremen

Thomas Delaney will join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in January 2017.

FC Copenhagen have agreed to sell the midfielder in the New Year, meaning he is available to manager Ståle Solbakken for the first half of the Alka Superliga season and our European campaign.

“I am glad that my future is now in place and that we have found a way in which I do not put FCK in a difficult situation,” club captain Delaney told fck.dk.

“I very much look forward to going playing in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen, but in the next six months there is only one thing that counts for me, and that is to deliver everything I have in me for FC Copenhagen.

“We have some very important days ahead of us, which I look forward to being a part of.”

FCK director Anders Hørsholt said: “This is a win-win solution for all parties.

“We have long known that Thomas has the ambition to test his talent in a major league and he deserves to get the opportunity.

“At the same time we have had a great desire to have Thomas in our squad in an exciting and important autumn for the club in both the Alka Superliga and Europe.

“We are therefore very pleased that, with Thomas and his advisers, have been able to reach this solution.

“We have succeeded because Thomas is a loyal club man and because we have prioritised our sporting objectives.

“Overall, I believe that this is a very good solution, we are very pleased.”

Delaney made his debut for FCK in 2009 after coming up through the youth ranks.

The 24-year-old has already scored once in the Superliga this season and assisted Andrija Pavlovic with the winning goal in FCK’s 1-0 result over APOEL on Tuesday night.

“It has been a puzzle to get the whole thing sorted out so that everyone was happy, so it's nice that we have succeeded,” manager Solbakken said.

“Thomas is an important player for us on and off the field, so we are pleased that he will be with us for another half a year and is part of the team in the Superliga and Europe.

“It gives us security in some very important matches in the autumn. Plus, in January, Jan Gregus will get the opportunity to play in the team without any time pressure.

“For some players it might be a challenge to remain motivated at a club when you know that you have to leave soon, but not Thomas.

“He shows day after day that he is highly professional and more than 100 percent loyal to his club and his teammates.”
