Ståle returns to FC Copenhagen

FC Copenhagen can confirm the club has ceased its relationship with Ariel Jacobs with immediate effect. Former coach Ståle Solbakken has been appointed new head coach on a three-year contract.

Ariel came to Copenhagen last summer and led the team to their 10th Danish title and qualification for the UEFA Champions League. However, due to a lack of results at the beginning of the new season, it was time to part ways with the Lions.

CEO Anders Hørsholt spoke to FCK.dk about the decision:

- As a club, the results we have achieved on the pitch in recent months have not been acceptable for FC Copenhagen and therefore we have decided to discontinue doing business with Ariel Jacobs. We do not question his general abilities, personality and dedication. Our decision is based solely on sporting grounds.

Ståle Solbakken is now the head coach of FC Copenhagen. The Norwegian has previously had good spells in the Danish capital both as a player and coach. He has won the Superliga five times with FCK and in 2010/11 reached the knockout stage of the Champions League.

- Ståle Solbakken's qualities as a coach are indisputable. At the same time he knows this club inside out and is part of its history. Therefore, we believe that he is the right man for us both in the short and long term. Initially there is a lot of work to do to get results on an even keel, Hørsholt continued.

Ståle, 45, played for FC Copenhagen 15 times in the 2000/2001 season and led the Lions as head coach in 178 matches from 2005 to 2011.
