The season in records

The season in records

It has now been a week since William Kvist held the Superliga trophy above his head, confirming a record-breaking season for FC Copenhagen. The 2-0 victory over AaB rounded off the successful campaign in style, while contributing to breaking new records and furthering others.

It goes almost without saying that FCK have met numerous records this season, and below you can see which records the club now holds.

DANISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE RECORD

The earliest champions ever

Copenhagen won the Danish championship in the 26th round of games when they beat Lyngby BK 2-1 away. The Championship was already a reality even before the first whistle at Lyngby, as OB lost to FC Nordsjælland in the day’s early kick off. The title was therefore won with seven games remaining, which isn’t just a Superliga record, but also a new record for the entire Danish Football League, where no team had previously won the championship with more than four games to go.

SUPERLIGA RECORDS

Most points in a Superliga Season

With the victory over AaB, the Lions added three more points to their total, finishing the season on an emphatic 81 points. It is an improvement on the record of 76 points set by Brøndby in 1997/98 and equalled by FCK in 2006/07.

Consecutive victories on home soil

Before this season OB sat on the record for most consecutive victories at home in the Superliga. In 2009 they won 11 home games in a row, but Copenhagen have now beaten this feat, for their 13 Superliga victories in a row in PARKEN seated the Lions firmly with this record. Indeed, it can even be extended when the 2011/12 campaign gets underway in July.

Biggest gap between first and second place

The biggest difference between first and second in the Superliga was 14 points. It was set in 1996/97, where Brøndby had this edge over Vejle BK. However, this record was somewhat emphatically overturned by Copenhagen, as their final game of the season yielded a further three points over OB, contributing to a 26-point gap between the Danish champions and the Fynen club.

Most wins during a Superliga season

Copenhagen's victory over AaB was the season's 25th win in the Superliga, and therefore toppled Brøndby’s old record of 24 victories set in the 1997/98 season.

Fewest defeats in a Superliga Season

In the penultimate game of the season, FCK lost 3-0 to OB. It was only Ståle Solbakken’s the second defeat of the season, the first coming in Aalborg in the spring. The previous lowest defeats record was three, and so another record was broken last Sunday with the avoidance of defeat against AaB.

Highest goal difference (equalled)

With a goal difference of +48, FCK equalled Brøndby’s record made in 1997/98 and improved the club record in the process. The Lions’ best-ever previous goal difference was from 2008/09, where the difference was +41.

CLUB RECORDS

Most goals in a Superliga Season

Before this season Copenhagen's record for most goals scored in a single campaign was 67. The Lions passed this total in their 28th match, and have gone on to notch up 77 goals this season. This total is the second highest number of goals ever scored in a season, Brøndby holding the number one spot with 81.

Club top scorer in one season

Dame N'Doye ended the season as both the Superliga and FCK undisputed top scorer. He didn’t just smash Morten Nordstrand’s previous record of 16 from the 2008/09 season, but N’Doye’s 25 goals means that he is now in the top three of all time Superliga top scorers. Only Ebbe Sand (28 goals in 1997/98) and Miklos Molnar (26 goals in 1996/97) have scored more goals in a single Superliga season than Dame N'Doye.
