FCK Weekly News: 27th September – 3rd October

A season of records

Following Sunday's 3-0 victory over SønderjyskE, FC Copenhagen reached 11 Superliga home wins in a row. While it was an improvement on the club's current record, it also matched OB's Superliga record of 11 home wins in a row from March to August 2009 - a streak that, incidentally, was ended after Copenhagen drew 1-1 with the Funen side at Fionia Park.

At the time of writing, Copenhagen have won 23 of their 28 matches this season, drawing four, and suffering just one defeat to the hands of FC Midtjylland. The Lions have scored 68 goals and only conceded 22. These statistics have already broken several records, while others look set to follow.

The earliest champions - Danish League Record

Copenhagen became the earliest team to win the Superliga crown after just 26 rounds of the 33-game season. They regained the title with seven games still to play. Besides this new Superliga record, it's also a new record for the entire professional Danish Football setup, where no team has managed to win a championship earlier than four games before the end.

Most goals in a Superliga season - Club Record

With 68 goals FC Copenhagen have already beaten their previous club total for a single season. There is still the Superliga record to be beaten however - 81 - set by Brøndby IF in 1997/98. It will require hard work and good fortune from Dame N'Doye and the rest of the Lions squad to reach this total. They have five games to find 13 goals.

Consecutive home victories - Joint Superliga Record

Following their 3-0 win over SønderjyskE, FCK have now succeeded in earning maximum points in PARKEN since early September, where they drew 2-2 with Silkeborg. Indeed, this is only one of two home games Copenhagen have dropped points in this season, the other being a 1-1 draw with Aab at the start of the campaign. A win against FC Midtjylland in a fortnight's time would see OB's 11-game record broken.

Potential Records:

Most points in a Superliga Season

Both Copenhagen and Brøndby have managed 76 points in a single Superliga season. FCK currently have 73 points, and bearing in mind that there are still five matches of the season remaining, there is a good chance the 77-point mark will be reached.

Largest lead over second place

In the 1996/97 season, Brøndby won the Superliga with a 14-point gap between them and second placed Vejle BK. This is the biggest difference between first and second place in Superliga history. With five games to go, the Lions are 26 points ahead of OB, and so there is a good chance this record will be broken come 29 May.

FCK and Superliga top scorer

With Dame N'Doye's two goals against SønderjyskE, the Senegalese now has 21 goals to his name: while Cesar Santin has 15. Before this year, it was Morten Nordstrand who, after 16 goals in the 2008/09 season, held the club record. N'Doye has smashed this, but it will require consistency in the final five games if he wants to enter the top three Superliga goalscorers in a single season. The top three currently stand as: Ebbe Sand (28 goals in 1997/98), Miklos Molnar (26 goals in 1996/97) and Erik Bo Andersen (24 goals in 1994/95).

Most wins during a Superliga season

Copenhagen have won 23 out of the season's 28 matches. Should they win two more of the five remaining, the club will beat Brøndby's record of 24 victories from 1997/98.

Fewest defeats in a Superliga season (with 33 games)

So far only one team has managed to claim all three points from a tie with FCK. The Superliga record for fewest defeats in one season is three, shared by three clubs: AaB (1998/99), AGF (1995/96) and FC Copenhagen (2006/07). The Lions therefore can beat the record if they lose only one game.

Best goal difference

The best goal difference the club has ever had is +41. That was during the 2008/09 season, where the Lions bagged 67 goals and only conceded 26. Copenhagen are currently on +46, and appear determined to overcome the overall goals scored record of 81.

During this season, FCK have broken several European records for a Danish football club. However, that is an entirely different matter, subject to an entirely different future article. In this article we have only reflected on the Superliga successes. Therefore, keep your eye out for further record-breaking facts in the future.
