Royal League coming up

In a hectic period with SuperLeague, Danish Cup and UEFA Champions League, Royal League is approaching, and double title defenders F.C. Copenhagen will play Brøndby, Hammarby and Lillestrøm in the group stages.

Royal League was created three years ago in order to make an independant club tournament for the best clubs in Scandinavia as well as improving the clubs abilities in the European club tournaments. Each year number 1-4 from Denmark, Sweden and Norway is placed in three group stages, and number 1 and 2 from each group plus the two best-placed number 3 qualify for the quarter finals.

F.C. Copenhagen has won the Royal League the first two years, beating IFK Göteborg in 2005 - after a dramatic penalty shoot-out - and Lillestrøm in this years final, when Razak Pimpong produced the only goal of the game in the dying seconds.
