Ready for the Cup Final

With a comfortable 4-0-win against Lyngby in the second leg of the semi-final, F.C. Copenhagen qualified for the Cup final against OB Odense on May 17th.

Copenhagen controlled the game right from the first whistle and produced several good chances, but had to wait until the 24th minute to get their first goal, when Ailton Almeida in two attempts headed the ball into the net, after Lyngby-keeper Thomas Seidelin had saved his first effort.

Five minutes later William Kvist crossed from the right, and Lyngby full-back Brian Hamalainen was unlucky to deflect the ball over his keeper and into the net. A very similar goal to the one, Kvist got in Amsterdam in August, which eventually secured Copenhagen a 2-0-win and a place in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

This time his goal sent Copenhagen further along the road to the Cup Final in PARKEN at May 17th, and just to make sure the champions added two more in the second half by Fredrik Berglund and Hjalte Nørregaard, who scored from the penalty spot after Ailton had been brought down.

The only thing to bother the champions this night was that keeper Jesper Christiansen had to leave the pitch after the first half due to a minor injury in his thigh. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Copenhagen could easily had scored six or seven goals, and Lyngby also might have scored once or twice during an entertaining evening in PARKEN between two offensive teams - but with a significant difference in strength. Lyngby, top of the 1st division, can now concentrate fully on gaining promotion to the Super League, while Copenhagen can win the Championship on Saturday night by beating AaB Aalborg in PARKEN. Should it not happen, there will still be 5 more matchpoints before the end of the season...
