Reactions from Copenhagen coach and players

  Ståle Solbakken
I am satisfied with our performance, we were well organised and had a high running capacity, and Benfica only came to one real chance. But we must be honest to say that we were not sharp enough in the offensive play. Everyone works hard, but we missed that little extra piece of creativity that can make the difference in the end. We knew that without Marcus Allbäck we had to play without an ordinary boxplayer, and after all I’m satisfied with one point. Benfica is a strong team, they actually beat Manchester United and Liverpool last year and has been strengthened since then. I’m looking forward to playing Celtic in the next round, but right now we only concentrate on our next game in the national league against Nordsjælland on Sunday.

I was not frightened of this international level, I think we made a good performance, even though we could have done better in the offensive play. But in Champions League it is important to build on a solid defense, and we succeeded in that.

In this kind of games, we must accept that in periods we will be under a great pressure, and like in Amsterdam we showed that we can handle it. I’m satisfied with my own performance against Simao, who did not come to crosses or chances during the game, but I can’t help feeling that we should have threatened Benfica more in the second half.

We always have good support at home, but this was absolutely fantastic, a top class performance. It really makes a difference for us players down on the pitch.

We were optimistic before the game, and there is no reason to be less optimistic now. We showed that we belong at this level, and we earned a valuable point before the coming games.
