Pavlovic goal hands FCK lead in Champions League playoff

Andrija Pavlovic’s strike earned FC Copenhagen a 1-0 first-leg lead over APEOL in the Champions League playoffs.

The forward rounded goalkeeper Boy Waterman moments before half time to thread into an empty net.

Rasmus Falk and Federico Santander were each denied by Waterman before Pavlovic’s goal.

Benjamin Verbic hit the post after the break, while Robin Olsen’s point-blank stop from Igor De Camargo’s lunging header prevented APOEL from levelling.

And Thomas Delaney spurned a late chance to double FCK’s lead heading into next week’s second leg - the captain passing wide from 10 yards.

Copenhagen must now turn their attention to the Alka Superliga and a home clash with AaB on Saturday.

Ståle Solbakken’s men then fly to Cyprus for the reverse tie of this Champions League contest next Wednesday.
