Kevin Diks enjoys emotional farewell with cup victory

F.C. Copenhagen defender Kevin Diks has ended his Lions career with two trophies in five days – and the 28-year-old says winning the double was the perfect send-off before he heads to Germany.

Diks will join Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer but battled through injury to help FCK lift the Danish Superliga on Sunday and the Danish Cup this afternoon.

"I didn't expect to come back from my injury, but I played the last two matches anyway. On Sunday it was tough emotionally, but I think it was tougher today because it was my last match," says Diks.

"Of course we would have liked to have played (the final) in Parken, but the reception from the fans here was fantastic. I can't thank them enough… all the times they sang my name… I really appreciate it, and I really appreciate them. So it was very emotional.

"I already said at half time that I was tired, because it was very intense against Nordsjælland (on Sunday), and after a 5-6 week break, it's tough to play two games in four days.

"So after 65 minutes I said I had to come off, and the plan was also to do so, and I said to Nees, give me five minutes.

"When I came off, the other players came up to me - my friends, my brothers… and the farewell the fans gave me when I left the pitch made it more emotional. I really appreciate it and I'll never forget it."

Diks joined FCK back in the summer of 2021 when he arrived at Vienna airport to join the Lions' training camp. Five trophies, 170 appearances and 23 goals later, Diks now heads to Germany to continue his career.

Everyone at FCK would like to wish Kevin the very best in his future career. You're welcome back any time!
