Lions victorious in local derby

Before the kick off, FC Copenhagen celebrated two milestones. The first was for Johan Wiland, who against Horsens last month played his 100th game for the club. Meanwhile, after Dame N’Doye’s strike on Thursday evening in the UEFA Europa League, the Senegalese became FCK’s record goalscorer, surpassing Todi Jonsson on 69 goals.

On the pitch, Claudemir came back into the centre of midfield after a sustained absence through injury to face Copenhagen’s local rival Lyngby BK. Also, Bryan Oviedo moved forward to the left wing, giving Pierre Bengtsson the chance to retain his usual place at left back.

It was Lyngby who offered the first threat on goal after just six minutes, but Jonas Henriksen could only fire wide of Wiland’s left-hand post after the striker had battled hard for possession. Ten minutes later and FCK got their first shot way, Oviedo blasting one over the crossbar from range as the home side took control of the game.

Indeed, the Lions would have opened the scoring on 17 minutes, were it not for some magnificent LBK goalkeeping. A cross from the wing fell to N’Doye who headed into César Santin’s range at the far post. The Brazilian headed goal-wards unmarked, only to see his shot blocked by keeper Rune Pedersen’s feet, and the ball bounce clear of goal.

Claudemir back with a bang!

Ten minutes before the break and Lyngby were given a chance to pose a threat on Wiland’s goal, but a weak Patrice Bernier free kick failed to scare the Swedish No. 1.

The second half started as much as the first had finished, with neither team exerting any dominance on the game. There was one spark however, when Thomas Kristensen headed a Bengtsson cross onto the post, the ball rebounding to Santin. The striker reacted well, but couldn’t find the finishing touch just 70 seconds after the restart.

After an hour of play Pape Pate Diouf came on for Oviedo, a substitution that would prove pivotal in the game for head coach Roland Nilsson. Just two minutes after entering the field, Diouf worked his way into a good position on the left wing to arrow in a cross to the on-rushing Claudemir, who nodded the ball home for 1-0 before Pedersen could even react.

Late goals secure three points

Kristensen was then replaced by Christian Grindheim, the midfielder immediately getting in on the action. It was 2-0 on 74 minutes when Lars Jacobsen’s shot bounced off the post directly to Diouf’s feet. The striker wasted no time in converting the opportunity to seal his second Superliga goal in a Copenhagen shirt.

Shortly after his strike Diouf was again on hand to terrorise Pedersen’s net. However, the keeper did well to pluck away his header with ten minutes to go. Moments later N’Doye went even closer when Santin played him in one-on-one. Copenhagen’s record goalscorer rounded Pedersen and looked set to make it 70 for the club, but placed his final effort into the side netting from an acute angle, with all the time in the world to stare at his misfortune.

However, the FCK faithful weren’t to be let down from a final hurrah, as in the last play of the game Santin scored. The striker knocked in his ninth league goal of the season to finish off a clinical counter attack. First N’Doye dropped deep to receive a loose ball, and carried it forward before playing Christian Bolaños in on the right wing. The Costa Rican needed no second chances in picking Santin out at the far post to wrap up a comfortable win for Copenhagen leading into the international break.
