Lions victorious in eight-goal thriller

FC Copenhagen put six past Aalborg as the Lions stretched their lead at the top of the Alka Superliga to nine points.

Federico Santander gave FCK an eighth-minute lead when he reacted first to a Benjamin Verbic centre.

And it was 2-0 three minutes later thanks to Kasper Kusk’s curling effort from the edge of the area - Verbic again doing the leg work to create the opening.

Only a neat Nicolai Larsen save and the width of the post prevented Nicolai Jørgensen making it three.

And on 37 minutes AaB pulled one back when FCK defender Erik Johansson deflected a Kasper Risgård shot past Robin Olsen.

But Copenhagen soon restored their two-goal advantage with a neat finish through Larsen’s legs from Jørgensen, before Santander bagged his second with a fierce volley minutes after the restart.

Thomas Enevoldsen’s strong header beat Olsen in goal to make it 4-2 but again the Lions responded swiftly - this time substitute Youssef Toutouh knocking in.

And Andreas Cornelius completed the rout on the counter attack when he picked up Kusk’s neat through-ball to slide home.

FCK must now prepare for a DBU Cup quarter-final clash with Randers on Wednesday, before travelling to FC Nordsjælland in the league four days later.
