Lions go down in the Derby

Martin Albrechtsen’s late goal gave Brøndby IF a narrow victory in the first Copenhagen derby of the season.

Defender Albrechtsen nodded home a deflected shot as he beat the offside trap to score his first Alka Superliga goal in three seasons.

FCK’s Federico Santander headed wide a golden opportunity in a cagey first half that saw Tom Høgli stretched off after just eight minutes.

Kasper Kusk drove over from a corner early in the second half, while Benjamin Verbic was a deflection away from finding the net.

Winger Verbic also had a penalty appeal turned away, while at the other end Teemu Pukki almost found the net for Brøndby.

But BIF earned the three points when Albrechtsen reacted first to a deflected shot that looped into the air - the former Lions player glancing his header past Stephan Andersen.

A free header from Verbic just seven yards out should have levelled the scores with nine minutes remaining, before Thomas Delaney also sent wide a late close effort.
