Lions crash out of Europe

FC Copenhagen were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League on away goals to FK Jablonec last night.

The Lions went 2-0 down through goals from Tomas Wagner and Martin Pospisil, which overturned the 1-0 away victory in the Czech Republic last week.

Benjamin Verbic was sent off just past the hour mark but Nicolai Jørgensen’s sublime control and finish gave FCK hope with 18 minutes left.

However, a Martin Pospisil thunderbolt put Jablonec further ahead.

And, despite Federico Santander netting late on to set up a tense five minutes of stoppage time, Copenhagen couldn’t find that elusive breakthrough a third time.

The result means FCK will not play European football this season, while Jablonec progress to the Europa League qualification playoff round.
