League round-up

On match day 32, the second to last round of the season, F.C. Copenhagen secured its 7th championship by winning away against Esbjerg. Astoundingly, the league championship was in fact the second title that week as the lions had already garnered the cup only days before. And so, the boys have indeed made a clean sweep this season, winning the coveted “double”.

Match day 28, 3 May:

F.C. Copenhagen – AaB Aalborg 3-0

Martin Vingaard:

- We knew that if we just kept at it we would get the goals somehow and today’s substitutions prove that we have a quality squad through and through. They helped to kick it up a notch and demonstrate that we do in fact have in fact an extra gear. The first goal was a relief and it provided the poise that we needed to win comfortably.

Match day 29, 9 May:

F.C. Copenhagen – FC Nordsjælland 3-1

William Kvist:

- Kind of a reprise of that last game against AaB. They hold the fort during the first 60 minutes, then having worn them down we get the upper hand and in the end we win comfortably and deservedly.

Match day 30, 13 May:

OB Odense - F.C. Copenhagen 3-2

Mikael Antonsson

- A terrible opening to the game. They get their goals way too easy and it makes it so much more difficult for us. We make too many individual errors and it ruins the game for us. However, OB deserves credit too. They are a great side.

Match day 31, 17 May:

F.C. Copenhagen – Brøndby IF 4-0

Hjalte Nørregaard:

- We really came prepared and sat on them from start to finish. Everybody had been looking forward to this game - to show what we could do - and we were highly efficient in their penalty area. An absolutely wonderful win – I will never get tired of beating Brøndby!

Match day 32, 24 May:

Esbjerg fB – F.C. Copenhagen 0-1

César Santin:

- I am of course delighted that we win. This is our second title of the season and on top of that we had a great run in the UEFA Cup too. But we want more, and the league championship gives us an excellent opportunity to do just that.

Match day 33, 31 May:

F.C. Copenhagen – Randers FC 3-3

Atiba Hutchinson

- Coming back from 1-3 was really great. It feels much better to finish off with a 3-3 draw rather than actually loosing. We have worked hard all season long and we have fought home the results we needed. It has really been a perfect season for us.

Ultimately, F.C. Copenhagen finished the 2008/2009 SAS Liga a good five points clear of OB Odense in second place. Through an impressive run of 23 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses, the lions actually ended up producing a whopping 74 points, the third highest tally in league history.
