Kvist scores in Lions league victory

William Kvist scored his first goal back at FC Copenhagen as he helped the Lions triumph over SønderjyskE in the Alka Superliga.

The midfielder cut inside from the left of the box after beating the offside trap to side-foot home in the corner of the net - his first Copenhagen goal since leaving the club in 2011.

Thomas Delaney had opened the scoring just six minutes in when he converted Federico Santander’s cut-back from a cross from the right.

And two minutes later it was 2-0 when referee Michael Johansen spotted a handball in the SØE penalty area, which gave Nicolai Jørgensen the obligation of converting the resulting spot kick.

SønderjyskE hit back almost immediately to complete a furious opening 12 minutes when Pierre Kanstrup volleyed home a clearance from the edge of FCK’s area.

Daniel Amartey went close after the break for Copenhagen but it was Kvist who would finally see the game out with a strike the ensured FCK their fifth straight win of the season.

The Lions must now turn their attention back to the Europa League and a third qualifying round return leg with Jablonec in Telia Parken on Thursday.
