Johan Lange looks back on the season

After a season in which FC Copenhagen competed in Europe and won the DBU Cup for a sixth time, technical director Johan Lange looks back on the season.

- As managers our task is to analyse the results and in the Super League we have won two points on average per game. In seven of the last 10 seasons this had been enough to win the title, but we must recognise that there is a team that has performed even better, he said.

- Through our performances we have fulfilled two of the club's three sporting objectives: to reach European group stages and win the Cup.

- The start of the season was unstable after the extensive changes in the squad and a number of injuries. We managed to eliminate the recent Europa League finalists, Dnipro, during Champions League qualification and reach for the group stage in Europa League.

- Here our first three games were really good, while the last three we performed below our level. The overall conclusion of our European campaign was five good and five bad matches.

- In the Superliga we were 10 points behind FC Midtjylland after the first seven rounds. Since then we had a good and stable run with a strong finish in the autumn, where we picked up many points, just as we have done in the spring.

- Unfortunately, several offensive key players were hit by serious injuries in the mid-spring and it broke the flow in our play and the continuing development of the team, added Johan Lange, while he in turn warmly acknowledged the strength of character in the limited squad, who had to play many games within a short period.

The same 11-12 players have pulled their weight in order to achieve the results and they have delivered a fantastic job physically, mentally and tactically. We won seven games from our last eight outings and amongst them progressed into the Cup final with a lot of pressure to win the trophy and secure a better qualification for the next European campaign.

The players also secured second place in the Superliga with three games remaining and managed to finish the season well. It really deserves a lot of recognition, says Johan Lange, who sees a lot of perspectives in this:

- The players have gained a lot of useful experience in this period, which adds tactical ballast for the upcoming season. We have been changing formation more often than changing players, which has helped the team to develop tactically and many players have extended their physical and mental limits. Still, they have often been able to change the games when it looked difficult, and it really deserves high praise.

Looking to the summer off-season, Lange added:

- There were international duties for a lot of our players and then they will enjoy holidays until we begin training for the new season at the end of June. The first signings have already been completed to continue the development of the squad, which was founded last summer. The squad is full of energy and has a strong belief in the future, so after a well-deserved holiday we are ready to attack the new season and continue the team’s development.
