Harald Nielsen honoured

After 14 years as a board member in F.C. Copenhagen (PARKEN Sport & Entertainment) Harald Nielsen resigned at the latest ordinary General Assembly. Before the game against Randers FC he was honoured by chairman Flemming Østergaard for his achievements in the board, and Harald Nielsen was appointed honorary member of F.C. Copenhagen – the first ever in the clubs history.

Harald Nielsen was a dangerous centerforward for Bologna in Italy in the early sixties, and he was league topscorer in Serie A, when Bologna won the title in 1964. Before turning professional he played 14 games for Denmark, making his debut when he was only 17-year old, and soon he got his nickname “Gold-Harald”. In 1960 he was the leading goal scorer in the Summer Olympics, when Denmark took a sensationel silver medal.

He played six seasons for Bologna, before he was sold to Inter in a deal, which made him the most expensive player in the world. He also played for Milan, Napoli and Sampdoria before ending his career in 1970.

Harald Nielsen became the first chairman of F.C. Copenhagen in the period from 1992-1997.
