FCK win 3-2 in Farum

by Joe Short

A late goal from Andreas Cornelius secured a crucial victory in FCK’s season as the Lions maintain the pace in the Superliga with six games remaining. Cornelius’ strike came after an intense game of football where both sides threw caution to the wind looking for victory.

Ragnar Sigurdsson got the ball rolling just five minutes into the game with a header at the far post to nod FCK into the lead. Their advantage lasted just two minutes, however, as Johan Wiland collided with FCN striker Patrick Mtiliga in the Copenhagen box – the ball falling into Mtiliga’s path to tap home an equaliser.

The impact of the collision sent Wiland tumbling to the ground where he stayed for six minutes until being stretchered off by the matchday medical staff. Kim Christensen came on to replace him but could do nothing on 26 minutes when Nordsjælland took a 2-1 lead.

Morten Nordstrand glanced on a dangerous free kick past Christensen to silence FCK’s vocal away support and place FCN in the driving seat heading into half time.

The Lions wouldn’t be subdued, however, and following a tough opening 20 minutes after the break drew level through Igor Vetokele’s quick thinking. The substitute reacted first to Claudemir’s high ball into the box that goalkeeper Jesper Hansen failed to punch clear, Vetokele striking low into an unguarded net for 2-2.

The equaliser only spurred FCK on and Ariel Jacobs’ men had to wait until 12 minutes from time to regain the lead. Moments earlier Christensen had pulled off a superb save down to his right and in the next attack Cornelius capitalised on a Jores Okore mistake to sweep in the winner.

The 3-2 victory extended FCK’s lead at the top of the Superliga to 10 points with six games remaining, starting with AaB away next Sunday.
