FCK beat Brøndby with Verbic header

Benjamin Verbic’s second-half goal earned FC Copenhagen a crucial 1-0 win over Brøndby in the derby.

Verbic headed home at the back post on 65 minutes after Andreas Cornelius had looped back a Peter Ankersen cross.

Mahtias Zanka and Andrija Pavlovic were both denied by BIF goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow before half time, while Hany Mukhtar clattered the Lions crossbar.

Copenhagen goalkeeper Robin Olsen expertly denied Rodolph Austin early in the second half and also matched Mukhtar when Brøndby were chasing the game.

And Verbic’s effort proved to be the decisive goal as Copenhagen moved 13 points ahead of BIF in the race for the Alka Superliga title.
