Dnipro match moved to Kiev

UEFA have confirmed the away leg of FC Copenhagen’s Champions League third-round qualifying tie with FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk has been moved to Kiev.

FCK and the DBU had raised security and transport issues with UEFA and Lions CEO Anders Hørsholt spoke to FCK.dk to confirm the change of venue, 400km west of Dnipropetrovsk.

- We are pleased that UEFA have listened to and understood the many arguments we put forward against playing the match in Dnipropetrovsk. And in this context, we send a big thank you to DBU for their aid and cooperation.

- Playing in Kiev is a viable option because our insurance covers us in the area, it is a clear improvement due to the great distance from the eastern regions of Ukraine, and because it is possible for us to fly close to or into Kiev.

- We would like to emphasise that we have no problem with our opponents, FC Dnipro, and this issue has been solely about safety and common sense.

- Now we can put all our efforts into arranging the best possible trip and using the little preparation time we have available, before focusing on sport. This is a big and important game for FC Copenhagen.

FC Copenhagen held discussions with UEFA about the potential away match in Dnipropetrovsk in close cooperation with the DBU. The national football association’s president, Jesper Møller, expressed his gratitude for the change in venue.

- I am, on FCK's behalf, glad that UEFA have chosen to take both the DBU’s and FC Copenhagen’s inquiries and concerns seriously and are not taking any chances in terms of safety during the qualifying match next week.

- I hope that FC Copenhagen can now focus 100 percent on what it's all about, namely football, and do their part in ensuring a good European performance for Danish football.

The match will be held on 30 July in Kiev’s Olympic Stadium.

The return leg will take place on 6 August in Telia Parken.
