Denmark's Stephan Andersen joins FC Copenhagen

FC Copenhagen have agreed a three-year contract with Danish national team goalkeeper Stephan Andersen.

The 32-year-old joined Spanish side Real Betis last summer but spent the last six months on loan at Dutch outfit Go Ahead Eagles. Now his future lies in PARKEN and the Danish Superliga.

FCK manager Ståle Solbakken spoke to FCK.dk about the new recruit:

- We are pleased to have such an experienced, hungry and skilled player in the squad as Stephan. He has experience in the Premier League, Primera Division and international championships for Denmark, so he can bring much with him to FC Copenhagen.

- At the same time it gives us a good opportunity to strengthen competition in the goalkeeper position, which has before proven profitable to consistency on the field. As I have primary responsibility for the sports setup, I realise that Stephan has a somewhat chequered past with a nearby team, but we are together from now on.

Andersen himself spoke to FCK.dk about joining the Lions ranks:

- First of all I feel a joy and a desire to get started in FC Copenhagen. I've experienced a lot in my career but I am still ambitious and want to feel what, for example, it is like to play Champions League football and win a championship. Both of these things I hope can be done during my time in FCK.

- There is surely no doubt that this is the biggest club in Scandinavia and it means a lot when you get the opportunity that I have now. All footballers want to play in the biggest and best clubs, so I'm incredibly happy to be a part of FC Copenhagen now.

Andersen meets up with the Danish national team for a training camp today, where he has the chance to earn his 28th cap if he plays against either Hungary or Sweden. He will join his team-mates at FC Copenhagen on June 26.
