Delaney rescues point for Copenhagen

Thomas Delaney scored an injury-time header to earn FC Copenhagen a valuable point in the derby with Brøndby on Sunday evening.

In front of a sold-out PARKEN, Delaney rose to meet Pierre Bengtsson’s cross and nod past Lukas Hradecky before celebrating with the FCK fans behind the goal.

The strike cancelled out Ariel Nuñez’s 73rd-minute opener, when the midfielder reacted first to a low Johan Wiland save off Quincy Antipas to tap home.

Andreas Cornelius and Christian Bolaños had both gone close with headed efforts before the strike, while Hradecky spectacularly saved off Igor Vetokele early in the second half.

Yet Copenhagen maintained their resolve. Georg Margreitter thundered a Bengtsson corner onto the crossbar on 86 minutes and it looked as though FCK’s fate was written until Delaney headed home the leveller.

Bentgsson was again the architect, picking up a loose ball from a free-kick to loft a cross in front of goal, where Delaney beat Martin Albrechtsen to plant his header into the bottom corner.

The draw keeps FCK in third place, ahead of fourth-place Brøndby on goal difference with only three games remaining.

The Lions’ next encounter is a trip to Viborg on Thursday evening.
