CV: - We expect an aggressive opposition

FC Copenhagen have an important week ahead. With domestic matches against FC Midtjylland and AC Horsens split by European commitments against FC Viktoria Plzen, FCK Director of Sport Carsten V. Jensen appreciates the team’s excellent start to the new season.

from Carsten V Jensen

After three wins and a draw in the Superliga so far, we are back at the top of the league. Meanwhile we are just two European victories away from the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. The playoff round is our final hurdle before the tournament really begins, and we meet the Czech champions FC Viktoria Plzen in PARKEN on Tuesday at 20:45 Danish time.

With a new coach, new assistants and part-replacement of the playing squad over the summer – and not to mention a very tight match schedule in recent weeks – these results are obviously very satisfying. It is unusual for us to have so much change to the squad and staff, and not everything has fallen into place for us yet, but nevertheless we are still unbeaten after six competitive games this autumn. In this context Roland Nilsson, the other coaches, players and staff around the team deserve great praise. They have all done a very solid job, and it is gratifying to note that the winning culture in FC Copenhagen is still alive and kicking.

Now on Saturday we meet FC Midtjylland in PARKEN, who have two wins and two defeats in the Superliga so far. Currently in mid-table, I think FCM has a team that will improve through the season and maybe even vie for medals and European places come the end of the season.

FCM have also been active on the European scene where just over a week ago they suffered a late 2-1-defeat to Portuguese Vitoria Guimaraes after a 0-0 draw in Herning. Two relatively straight matches, that unfortunately for FCM resulted in them being knocked out of European competition.

This means that they can now fully concentrate on the matches in the Superliga, and therefore we can probably expect an aggressive opposition in FC Midtjylland: who with head coach Glen Riddersholm will try to dominate the match with their new attacking playing style.

On Saturday we will again need the ultimate and unconditional support that to date the terraces have given to Zanka and the boys. We now just need you and everyone around the club and the team to give their all so that we can take further steps towards more great achievements in the future.

Welcome to the third PARKEN game of this season’s Superliga. Welcome all supporters, players and coaches from FC Midtjylland and to the match officials.
