Cup winners!

Thursday F.C. Copenhagen won the cup final through a 1-0 victory against AaB of Aalborg. The only goal of the game came in the 31st minute when a wonderful interplay between Pospech and Ailton got the better of the Aalborg defenders and provided William Kvist with an opportunity at the edge of the box. In a game where chances were otherwise few and far in between, he resolutely and skilfully placed the ball well outside the goalkeeper’s reach.

- As far as I am concerned we take the win because we are in fact the better team. In the first half we took complete charge of the game through a highly disciplined team effort, and then after the break we focused mainly on defence knowing that we just needed to shut them out in order to secure the trophy, as Hjalte Nørregaard summed it up afterwards.

- Winning a trophy in front of such a huge crowd is a fantastic experience and something to tell the grandchildren of one day. In all honesty however, today’s game probably wasn’t the best of efforts on our part, but the fact that on such a day we still manage to score a goal and win the title just goes to show what high qualities this team truly possesses, declared William Kvist.

- Of course we would have preferred to score a second goal but we were always very aware that all we really had to do was to keep them from scoring. This victory was won through hard work but as yet we cannot allow ourselves to celebrate too vigorously since come Sunday we have to be ready for a new and hugely important game, said goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen.

- Today the players have demonstrated that mentally they come well-prepared for the last few, crucial, games of the season. Hopefully, we can now round off this season with the four points that will send the league championship our way too, concluded head coach Ståle Solbakken after the ceremony.

Through the win in the 2009 final F.C. Copenhagen now has four cup titles to its name.
