Copenhagen internationals

During the last ten days a huge part of the Copenhagen-squad has been on duty with their respective national teams.

Goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen, right back Lars Jacobsen and central defender Michael Gravgaard was part of Denmarks squad, with Jacobsen and Gravgaard in the starting eleven against Portugal on Friday and Iceland on Wednesday. Denmark defeated Portugal 4-2 in a friendly, and got a fine start in the Euro 2008-qualification with a 2-0-win in Reykjavik. Christiansen is currently second-choice behind Aston Villa-keeper Thomas Sørensen.

Three of the talented Copenhagen youngsters - William Kvist, Martin Bergvold and Martin Bernburg - were in the Danish U21-squad, who won 3-0 in Macedonia at Saturday. Kvist played from start, and Bergvold and Bernburg came on during the second half. Tuesday they lost 0-2 at home to Sweden with their Copenhagen-teammate Oscar Wendt as a regular left back.

At Saturday midfielder Tobias Linderoth played for Sweden, when they defeated Latvia 1-0 in a friendly, while Marcus Allbäck remained on the bench. Wednesday both Linderoth and Allbäck was in the starting lineup in the Euro 2008-qualifier against Liechtenstein, and Allbäck scored twice in the Swedish 3-1-victory. Fredrik Berglund was called to the squad for the Liechtenstein-game following the dismissal of Zlatan Ibrahmovic, Olof Mellberg and Christer Wilhelmsson, but Berglund did not come into action.

Finally central defender Brede Hangeland played full time for Norway, who hadn’t won a game for almost a year, but got a flying start to the Euro 2008-qualification winning 4-1 in Hungary at Saturday and 2-0 at home against Moldova on Wednesday.
