Ankersen: This point could see us go through

Peter Ankersen believes FC Copenhagen are in a great position to qualify for the knockout stages in Europe after the 1-1 draw in Porto on Wednesday.

FCK secured the point in their first Champions League group game of the season when Andreas Cornelius cancelled out Otavio’s opener.

The result puts the Lions second in Group G behind Leicester, who beat Club Brugge 3-0 in their game on Wednesday night.

And right-back Ankersen was all praise for the Lions, who held on with 10 men after Jan Gregus was sent off on 66 minutes.

“The point is very important. It’s not every team that gets a point here, it’s a very difficult place to play,” Ankersen told fck.dk.

“Hopefully we can use that point in the end of the group stage to get through. Maybe through to the last-16 or we can go for the Europa League. It was very important today.

“The first half was OK and in the second half we were the better team. The first 25 minutes until we went a man down.

“After that we were just defending and we showed that we are good defenders.

Winger Youssef Toutouh set up Cornelius’ equaliser when the Dane swung in a cross from the left flank early in the second half.

And Toutouh hopes the point in Porto can propel FCK to further results in Europe.

“It’s a big draw for us, it’s a tough place to play here and Porto is a very good team,” he said.

“So I think we did well defensively and worked very hard going forward. We got the point.

“As an offensive player you have to score or get assists and if you can do both it’s good. I got one today and am very happy, not only for the assist but also for the performance as a team. We played very well against good players.

“It was very tough, very hard. They have some very good players who keep the ball, they never do something stupid with it. They always find a solution and have good technical players. It was a very hard game and when we went down to 10 men it was even harder.”
